Projects
Support Africa Organization currently operates
from six cities in five countries. Our offices are located in:

Our approach is multi-faceted to reach the sexually
active population on multiple levels. These targeted campaigns are
tailored to take into account the local factors involved with delivering
these messages (cultural sensitivity, illiteracy, poverty, etc.
– please refer to the Africa section
of this website). But generally speaking, our efforts are broken
down into the following areas:
Even simple posters can get the message across through
the use of small words and pictographs so that as many people as
possible can understand. Ignorance of AIDS/HIV – how it is
transmitted, who can get it, even the fact that there is no cure
– still is a major obstacle. By publicly distributing these
types of literature, people are confronted with the information
but are not forced to discuss AIDS or sex, both culturally taboo
subjects in many cases.
Same message, different medium. Although most people do not own
a TV or radio, they are quite common in cafes, city squares, and
other public locations. We hope that because they are present in
“social” settings, we may be able to stimulate discussion
that would have been avoided before.
Free condom distribution at universities and secondary schools gives
us a two-prong strategy. First, we can ensure that men and women
have access to condoms to help prevent the spread of AIDS/HIV and
other sexually transmitted diseases. Second, it allows us to discuss
the issues one-on-one with students (who are generally more open
to talking about the subjects) and give them the facts to dispel
the myths.
Support Africa Organization is always searching for new ways to
get the message about AIDS/HIV to the people who need it. We also
try to positively impact the environment around if possible, including
areas such as education, drilling bore holes for clean water, and
establishing medical clinics. Because AIDS/HIV is so intertwined
with other factors in day-to-day life, helping in these areas will
ultimately indirectly help slow the disease's spread.
As our organization grows, we plan to create offices in several
other countries. Our current list of target countries include Equatorial
Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe.
